PGA Tour star Rory McIlroy had an interesting confrontation with a fan during Saturday's third round at the BMW Championship.

A fan in the gallery tried to mess with Rory on the green using a remote controlled golf ball.

After batting the ball away from the hole several times, the 33-year-old Irishman picked it up and lowered it into the pond.

The fan then yelled at McIlroy from the green side until he was escorted by a police officer to a chorus of booze.

The golf world took to Twitter to react to this wild chain of events.

"Elite move from Rory here.

The only thing that would have made this video better was if he had broken the ball into a million pieces," wrote one fan

"Rory is a punk. He could have easily laughed and gave it back to a friend.

It's not that deep," protested another.

Another said, "Rory was just looking to see if his remote-controlled ball is what he's showing, so he can swim."

Later in the video it was shown that the fan is being carried in handcuffs.

With a 1-under score for the day and a 7-under score for the tournament, McIlroy is currently ranked 10th -

Five shots behind singles leader Patrick Cantley at 12-under.
