Report: Notre Dame's Preference Amid Conference Changes Revealed

Notre Dame has been linked to the Big Ten, the SEC, and the ACC, during the last week's talk of the convention's reorganization.

With USC and UCLA moving into the Big Ten, many believe college football is headed toward a "two superconference" future.

Notre Dame may eventually have to attend a conference in a full-time capacity or risk being left behind.

However, according to Sports Illustrated's Pat Ford, Fighting Irish still has one priority: remaining independent.

A source familiar with the school's thinking told Sports Illustrated that "freedom is a priority and the clubhouse is leading."

It would take a lot to strip Notre Dame of its iconic identity,

But the volatility of the entire landscape remains a concern, and could further affect the Irish outlook.

Ford, however, says there may be two factors that ultimately push Fighting Irish to a convention.

Specifically, the Big Ten.
