A blockbuster business centered around Washington Nationals slugger Juan Soto has yet to materialize.

However, there is a reported frontrunner for their services.

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, some rival executives believe the San Diego Padres are at the forefront of landing Soto in a trade.

The Padres are currently second in the NL West with a 55-45 record.

Adding Soto will certainly help their chances of making the playoffs.

MLB fans should not be shocked by this report from Olney.

Earlier this month, he named San Diego as a potential landing spot for Soto.

"Rival officials expect civilians to trade Soto," Olney said.

“I think the two most, most invested teams in this pursuit could be the San Diego Padres, a win-now team.

How much fun will (Fernando) Tatis (Jr) and Soto and (Manny) Machado have in their lineup? and Toronto Blue Jays,

Who desperately needs a left-handed hitter in the middle of that right-handed lineup. ,

Soto would be an excellent addition to a youth corps in San Diego that's ready to rock.

In 97 matches this season, Soto is batting .243 with 20 homers and 45 RBIs.

By their standards, this is a down year.

Citizens have until August 2 to make business calls for Soto.
