The New England Patriots made a minor roster move on Monday, a week before the start of training camp.

The Patriots pardoned rookie long snapper Ross Reiter from Colorado State earlier today.

Reiter was signed as a draft free agent in the spring.

A semifinalist for the Manly Award given to the best long snapper in the country, Reiter was a significant contributor to CSU.

ESPN's Mike Rees said his main duty with the Patriots was to lighten the workload for longtime snapper Joe Cardona.

Cardona, fifth round pick out from Navy in 2015,

He has been New England's tallest snapper for the past seven seasons, winning a pair of Super Bowls in the process.

Hopefully this summer Reiter will have an opportunity to catch up elsewhere in the NFL.

Meanwhile, Cardona and the rest of the Patriots will report to training camp next week.
