Throughout Jimmy Garoppolo's entire season of speculation,

Most viewers assumed it was only a matter of time before the quarterback found a new home.

However, Jimmy G remains there.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers agreed to a renegotiated contract with a no-trade clause and no-tag clause.

The veteran's base salary will drop to $6.5 million with a $500,000 roster bonus and approximately $9 million in incentives.

This is not the result that one expected. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler called the news a "major swing in momentum."

Claiming that the teams hoped the 49ers would release him.

Although not the anticipated move, some like the decision of both sides.

The 49ers keep Garoppolo as a high-quality backup for Trey Lance, and Jimmy G gets to control where he plays next.

Of course, others wondered whether the 49ers would waver over their commitment to Lance with Garoppolo, who is still on the team.

Keeping Garoppolo creates a difficult situation for Lance, who will now be constantly looking over his shoulder.

If he doesn't move as fast as the 49ers,

Kyle Shanahan may return to the quarterback who has taken the franchise to the Super Bowl and conference championship games.

Lance will likely still start for San Francisco in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears,

But that doesn't guarantee to keep work away from Jimmy G throughout the season.
