Friday Night, Major League Baseball announced

Star infielder Fernando Tatis Jr punished severely

According to a statement from Major League Baseball,

Tatis received an 80-game suspension after testing positive for a banned substance.

As he was about to return to the lineup, he will now miss the rest of the season.

"We were shocked and extremely disappointed to learn today

that Fernando Tatis Jr. has tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance in violation of

Major League Baseball's United Prevention and Treatment Program and later received an 80-game suspension without pay,

"We fully support this program and hope that Fernando will learn from this experience," the Padres said in a statement.

ESPN's Jeff Payson was the first to break the news about the MLB star's possible positive test.

Naturally, fans weren't thrilled with the news.

Just when he thought he'd bring Tatis back to a stacked lineup, he's out for good.

According to ESPN, before the start of the 2022 season, Tatis broke his wrist in a motorcycle accident.

As a result, he has missed the entire season so far and will now miss the rest of the regular season and the playoffs.

It is a tough break for the Padres reaching the playoffs.
