Two games into his first year as San Francisco 49ers starter and quarterback Trey Lance is out for the year with a serious ankle injury.

But he is staying positive as his long road to recovery begins.

On Monday, Lance posted a message from his hospital bed on Twitter.

He said the surgery was complete and he was "ready to attack this rehab process."

“Really appreciate all the messages and prayers. The surgery was a success and I am ready to attack this rehab process.

We'll never understand why, but believe me it's all a part of his plan. I'll be back better than ever.

This chapter is going to make the story even bigger!" wrote Lance.

Lance's message has garnered over 42,000 likes and 5,000 retweets in the past two hours.

The comments are full of well wishes from 49ers fans and non-fans alike.

Praying for a speedy recovery Trey! Take your time

And we look forward to your return!" wrote one fan.

“I wish someone had told me this when I tore my anterior tibialis tendon. Take things one day at a time.

Learn to appreciate and celebrate small victories during your recovery journey.

And most importantly trust the process. You got this [Trey Lance]," wrote another.

"2023 SB confirmed (hopefully we're going to repeat).

I wish you a speedy recovery" declared a third boldly.

It is a long road to recovery.

But Lance should be back in the driver's seat for the start of the 2023 NFL season.
