Former Las Vegas Raiders head coach John Gruden has apologized for an email sent several years ago.
The emails contained racist and incorrect comments, which led to his sacking as head coach during the 2021–22 season.
Gruden was at the Little Rock Touchdown Club on Tuesday afternoon and was deeply sorry for what happened.
"I'm ashamed of what went into those emails and I won't make excuses for it," Gruden said.
"It's embarrassing. But, I'm a nice person. I have faith. I go to church, I've been married for 31 years,
And there are three great boys. I still love football.
I've made some mistakes, but I don't think anyone here has.
I just apologize and hope I get another chance."
Gruden may not get another shot, given that he is currently suing the league.
He is claiming that the league tried to leak his comments in his email and fired him.
Gruden has 15 years of experience in NFL head coaching.
He currently holds an overall record of 117–112 in 229 career games.
