The Baltimore Ravens have started training camp, but they have yet to sign Lamar Jackson on a long-term extension.

Jackson's current deal expires at the end of the 2022 season.

Speaking to members of the media on Thursday, the MVP quarterback said that talks are on with the team.

Jackson told reporters that he would continue to discuss a new deal when the two sides had "mutual free time".

ESPN's Jeff Darlington wrote on Twitter, "There's a feeling in Baltimore that something will soon subside.

"Either Lamar will take the offer ... or inform the team that he will run it until next season."

Ravens fans are eager to see a contract come to an end.

Darlington reported on ESPN's Get Up Thursday that "there's a very real possibility"

That Jackson doesn't sign an extension this summer. He said the 25-year-old could look to 2022 as "a proving year" before testing free agency.

Yet Jackson can secure significant guaranteed funding and long-term stability by signing a new agreement.

Either way, it is common for players to put contract negotiations aside over the course of a season.
