With Ohio State's season opener set for this Saturday, athletic director Gene Smith has issued a message to the fan base.

Smith wants Bucky fans to arrive in time for this weekend's game.

"We want you to get to your seats early.

This is a top five opponent, and we need your help from the start," Smith said.

“There are several celebratory events before kickoff that you would like to see.

So please, plan to sit in your seat by 7 pm. Newest."

Smith did not encourage fans to bring as much energy to Ohio Stadium as possible.

"Notre Dame is a great football team, and we are at a loss for not having a true Scouting report because they have a new coaching staff."

He added. "They have tremendous athletes who will be inspired.

The difference is between the shoe and you, Buckeye Nation."

The oddsmakers list Ohio State as the 17.5-point favorite on Notre Dame.

If the Buckeyes can jump for an early lead over the Fighting Irish,

The shoe should move for the rest of the night.

Ohio State and Notre Dame will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
