Jim Harbaugh announced quarterback of Michigan to begin the 2022 season.

Michigan head coach announced Saturday that Cade McNamara will start the first week against Colorado State.

However, JJ McCarthy will then open the upcoming match against Hawaii.

Big Ten Network analyst Howard Griffith reacted to Harbaugh's unorthodox decision.

"I think it's very unusual," Griffith said. "I've never heard of such a thing."

Former NFL fullback wonders if McCarthy will get any playing time in first game

And can McNamara see the field as he goes on the bench in Week 2.

"It's going to be very interesting," Griffith said. "If he pulls it off, congratulations.

But I think it's a very difficult position to put in, not just two quarterbacks,

But I look forward to including your team as well."

Gerry Dinardo called Harbaugh "a little different".

Brock Wren gave an even harsher assessment of the "messy" choice, "I hate it."

He is not alone.

Former USC star quarterback Matt Leinart also expressed disdain for the out-of-the-box decision.

It's certainly a fascinating scenario to watch in Michigan's first two games.

McNamara will get the first crack down center when the Wolverines host the Rams at noon on Saturday.
