The San Francisco 49ers will have to replace last year's breakout backfield star after Elijah Mitchell was placed on injured reserve with an MCL sprain.

Adam Schefter believes another rookie may once again run in with an opportunity.

Appearing on ESPN's Fantasy Focus, an NFL insider told Field Yates that the 49ers would "obviously" give Jeff Wilson more work,

who played just nine games last year after finishing the 2020 season with five touchdowns in his last four matches.

However, Schaffter advised everyone to keep an eye on Jordan Mason as "the guy who interests me".

He added that the unfinished rookie out of Georgia Tech "had the juice in his game" during the preseason.

While the draft equity shows third-round pick Tyrion Davis-Price will get a chance before Mason,

That didn't stop the 49ers from offering Mitchell an immediate job as a sixth-round pick last year.

In addition, Mason earned a roster spot on 2021 third rounder Trey Saruman

While Mason didn't get much playing time in college, the 5-foot-11, 223-pounder has since made a strong impression.

He caught Shefter's attention by securing 94 rushing yards on 19 precision carries.

Kyle Shanahan said the 49ers could play a "hot hand" when running back, but expected Wilson to get his first crack at the special assignment.

Since it's probably too late to add him to most fantasy leagues, fantasy managers might want to consider listening to Schefter.

And hiding Mason and clashing with the Seattle Seahawks before Week 2 of San Francisco.
