Before Super Bowl LVI, there were rumors that Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald was considering retirement. Obviously, those rumors were true.
On Thursday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport revealed that Donald had previously written a letter to the Rams expressing his desire to retire.
The letter was never filed and sent to the NFL, despite the desire to send it.
This culminated in a major contract extension for Donald to return to the team.
It's very hard to turn down a $40 million increase over three years without adding more years to the contract.
As a result, Donald is back with Ram for the foreseeable future.
NFL fans can hardly believe that the story is real.
Some fans want Donald to retire so he can stop beating their teams,
While Ram fans are now going to cherish their time with him even more:
Aaron Donald is arguably the most influential force the NFL has seen since Bruce Smith and the late great Reggie White.
He has been a pro bowler every season since his rookie year, has seven straight All-Pro selections, 98 sacks,
And has won the Defensive Player of the Year award three times.
The Rams would love to see him play at this level of high for many years to come.
It appears that Donald was not as eager to do so. But money speaks.
